Purpose
The association exists to advance research, practice, and training in contextual behavioral science, and to return that knowledge and its results broadly to practitioners and to those who need support, thereby contributing to people's psychological health and adjustment (Articles of Incorporation, Art. 3).
A procedure validated in research is not automatically usable in the field. Preparing stimuli, randomizing presentation, recording responses, judging whether a mastery criterion has been met — each is minor in isolation, but together they accumulate until the procedure is abbreviated and eventually abandoned. We build tools that absorb this burden, and we run the forums in which the people using those tools learn from one another.
Activities
The association carries out the following activities, in Japan and abroad (Articles of Incorporation, Art. 4):
- Holding research meetings and conducting scholarly exchange in contextual behavioral science
- Supporting practitioners in the practice of, and training in, contextual behavioral science
- Providing psychological assessment and support based on contextual behavioral science
- Designing, developing, providing, distributing, and selling systems and software that serve the practice of support based on contextual behavioral science
- Survey research on contextual behavioral science and its application in support
- Editing and publishing a journal, research reports, and other publications
- Any other activity necessary to achieve the purposes of the association
Scholarly activity
Research meetings, scholarly exchange, and the publication of a journal and research reports raise the standard of both research and practice in contextual behavioral science (items 1, 5, and 6).
Support for practitioners, and systems
We support practitioners in practice and training, provide psychological assessment and support, and develop and license the systems that make this work sustainable (items 2 through 4). See Systems.
A Japanese general incorporated association may not distribute surplus to its members. Revenue from licensing is directed to the operation of the society's academic activities and to the continued development of the systems.
